Research Nexus – End of an Era, Birth of Opportunity

Research Nexus was created out of a desire to help students, academics and practitioners get exposure for their knowledge across disciplinary boundaries. We created a social network for people to connect and upload articles, introducing some novel techniques to ensure exposure outside the website. The website was launched in November 2010 at the Erasmus Mundus Global Studies alumni conference at the University of Vienna and has just recently been succeeded by Unexus.org.

One of the highlights of the last year was the WikiLeaks Competition, sponsored by Ethem Deniz Comlekcioglu and his import distribution company, Travertine Brothers, and judged by Alain de Botton, Scott Burchill, Dan Denning, Johan Galtung, Douglas Kirsner and Matthew Watson. We received an excellent response with about 70 interesting and entertaining entries.

The demand for Research Nexus over the last year was high. We signed up nearly 300 users with with an active Facebook Page. Over 150 articles were submitted. There were over 13,000 unique visitors in the last year. Most importantly, we received a number of stories of people making new professional and personal connections from submitting articles on the website.

Research Nexus has given birth to a grander project with a more expansive vision. Unexus.org is the successor to Research Nexus and aims to become the world’s predominant Innovation Network. We call Unexus.org a platform for collective innovation whereby users showcase their unique projects and open them up to the collective wisdom of the network.

Unexus.org is currently invite-only and focused exclusively on members of the Erasmus Mundus Association and OCEANS Network. However, if you’ve found your way here from Research Nexus and would like to take part in the Innovation Conversation from inside the gated walls of Unexus.org, please get in touch with us via our social media channels!

The Innovation Conversation asks where innovation will come from in the present and in the future. We showcase the people, projects and pages inside Unexus.org, highlight examples of innovation in global society and feature guest posts from innovative thinkers.
